Balancing the flora

I'm sitting in Venice, surfboard in the shop - waiting for this mega storm to come in. Perfect time to repair my dings when I can't go in the water anyways!
As I enjoy the last weekend of the first month of the year, I partake in my last meals of indulgence. I have been phasing cheese and most grains/pastas/breads out of my diet the last month and have intentions of getting it down to under 20% of my overall diet. As I write this now I am drinking one of my last fruit and spirulina smoothies.
I have been dealing with and only partially successfully handling some flora imbalances in my body and have decided to take a boring but major beneficial leap into a candida diet. As a vegetarian this diet is quite limiting. It completely eliminates all sugar, that means fruits, dates, honey, all of it! I am basically restricting myself to a specific list of vegetables, a few nuts and a small selection of whole grains. Why would I do such a thing? Especially when a major part of my diet is smoothies?! To balance my flora and heal my gut.
This is in many opinions the most crucial part of your health as so many things are linked to your gut and intestinal health.
Some complementary and alternative medicine practitioners attribute common symptoms such as fatigue, headache and poor memory on intestinal overgrowth of the funguslike organism Candida albicans, or "yeast syndrome." To cure the syndrome, they recommend a candida cleanse diet, which includes no sugar, white flour, yeast and cheese, based on the theory that these foods promote candida overgrowth.Generally following a candida regimen takes 4-6 weeks to fully rebalance and strengthen your interior.
The benefits of such a task include but are not limited to reducing some of these symptoms: Vaginal yeast infections, bladder infections, prostatitis, impotence or erectile dysfunction, menstrual difficulties including heavy periods, cramping, premenstrual syndrome and PMDD, endometriosis, Fungal infections and skin problems including: ringworm, psoriasis, eczema, acne, itchy skin, rashes, jock itch, diaper rash, athletes foot, skin lesions and nail bed infections;Gastrointestinal disorders such as constipation or diarrhea, bloating and/or gas, heartburn, burping, sore throat, oral thrush and mouth sores, Nervous system disorders such as fatigue, malaise, loss of concentration, poor memory, anxiety, insomnia, irritability, moodiness, OCD, headaches, depression, Muscle or joint disorders: cold hands and feet, tingling or numbness of the extremities, muscle aches and weakness, joint pain or swelling, Food-related problems: Development of food allergies, shaking or irritability when hungry (hypoglycemia), or craving sweets, breads, alcoholic drinks Other symptoms such as frequent sinus congestion, ear infections, and sensitivity to tobacco smoke, perfume and chemical odors
Of course this list is extensive and also situational, but having a balance of good bacteria for optimal health in any event seems like a no brainer.
Things I know I am looking forward to: better digestion, better sleep, gut flora and vaginal flora balancing, clearer brighter skin, better overall smell (breath, body odor etc), decrease of environmental and food sensitivities, better eyesight and most importantly elevated mood.
Take it for what you wish, believe the hype or not - all I know is I am ready to be the most optimal version of myself and I think this is a really good way to do it!
